[technically speaking this is crack and should be on the OOC board whereas this one is for the cannon but... we don't really seem to do cannon anymore... so I'm not sure you're really hurting... *wonders with imouto-mun is to debate this with* I suppose it's safe to keep this here for now. we can always move it to the other board if it's a real problem*]
Hinata was walking up a side street, heading home from the hospital for a shower, change of clothes, and a nice loooong nap. She had been spending several hours a day there, keeping watch over her cousin, and had decided she'd had enough for today. Neji was sleeping when she left. He was almost always sleeping... at least, she thought he was. It was so hard to tell with his eyes wrapped like that. There were brief periods where he seemed more aware, his breathing would become faster and shallow, and he would seem to flinch at some sounds or if suddenly touched. But he was still locked in some kind of mental self-defense mechanism. At least he seemed peaceful, and more comfortable then he had been.
She sighed as she reached the one intersection. Right now, she needed a break. Luckily there were some steps leading up to upstairs apartments, and they would make for a nice spot to sit and catch her breath. Morning sickness hadn't plagued her too much till the past few days, but her constant worrying coupled with the fact that she had just reached the point where 'baby' was actually feeding off her own chakra, she understoond now why the medic nin had been giving her such a hard time about not over-exerting herself. 'Sasuke will be upset if he finds out I walked home by myself... maybe if I wait here a bit someone will come along.
It didn't take long before she spotted a patch of orange and blond heading her way that could only be one person. He didn't look like himself though, giving more the impression of a kicked puppy then the Naruto she had crushed on not so long ago. He didn't even seem to notice her as he started to pass not even 5 feet from her. Not wanting to disturb him but concerned, she worked up the nerve and called out to him timidly from her seat.
"Naruto-kun! A...are you a..alright?"
[I was confused about that, since there were posts like this in the OOC and some in this one XD...my bad! Well now I know]
Torn out of his mind plagued with his own feelings of unknown guilt, Naruto turned to see the familar pastel haired Hyuga...no Uchiha. Calling out over to him.
He had to decide. Ignore her and keep going on the way home...or turn around and go and talk to her and maybe resolve some things.
He decided on the the second and walked over, with a fake smile on his face. No point in upsetting her about his problems...at least he could ask about the baby some more.
"Oh! Hi Hina-chan! I'm doing fine...what about you? How is the baby?"
The fake smile was begining to hurt his cheeks from straining them, but he held unto it for dear life. He sat on a set a few down from the one she was sitting on.
Her cheeks flushed at that. They hadn't meant to announce it quite like that. She'd only just gotten the confirmation and was still in a bit of disbelief herself. Her hand rubbed absentmindedly over her still flat tummy, as if checking for herself.
"It's alright... I suppose... won't start getting bigger for a while yet..." She could see the hurt in his eyes, the twitch at the corner of his mouth as he tried to appear happy. After all those years of watching him, she knew how to read his body language. With a sigh she smiled gently at him, scooting a little closer.
"I'm sorry about... the other day. We've wanted to talk to you for so long... but... nothing seems to be going as we planned it."
Hinate looked down at her hands, finding she was spinning her wedding band again. She hated that her and Sasuke had hurt him so... but how to explain everything that happened while he was out looking for her cousin all that time...
Naruto's smile strained further...he had made her feel guilty.
"No no! It's cool..I mean I was the one who was gone then entire time. heh heh."
Naruto fell back into a frown, looking over a nearby tree. A birds nest was sitting in it, Naruto knew the type of bird...it would casually kick out any babies it didn't want from its nest. The blonde ninja blink hard, he felt like that bird now. But as long as the others were happy and taken care of...he was fine with giving up what he wanted most to Hinata.
"Where is Sasuke anyway! He should be with you!" Naruto switched topics quickly.
She saw the smile slip, and the flash of his true feelings as he looked away. Hinata wasn't sure what he was looking at, or if he just couldn't look at her anymore. Pushing herself up off the step with a tired sigh, she decided she was going to have to do something about this.
"He's talking to Tsunade about something, I think he's looking at starting missions again..." she stretched a bit, trying her best to look worn out and pathetic, which wasn't that hard at the moment really.
"Anou... Nartuo, would you... mind walking me home? I don't get around so well these days, and he would be upset if he heard I walked home from the hospital by myself. I'll cook you dinner... to make up for taking you out of your way...." She flushed a little and flashed him a tired smile, hoping she could appeal enough to his good nature.
His worry melted away in a kind concern. "Sure! Don't worry about dinner, I'll make you something."
Naruto offered his arm to her to lean on if she needed the extra support.
"I only can make ramen but you don't need to be on your feet so much!"
An image of small children with Hinata's pale pastel hair but grown like Sasuke's came into his mind. He felt his heart warm up to the idea even more...little chibi Sasuke's and Hinatas running around.
"Do you hope it will be a boy or a girl?" he asked, hoping silently to himself it was a boy.
She slipped her arm through his, her cheeks glowing a color slightly lighter then they used to around him. Things had gotten quite, awkward... between them just before he left all those months ago. She had come to terms with the blonds level of affection with her, especially now that she was married to his best friend. He'd come down from the pedestal, and though she still loved him, it was more on the level of Neji and her teammates.
"Anou... I think a boy. It would be hard for him to rebuild his clan without a son to carry the name. That and..." she giggled at the thought that popped into her head. "he's always said girls are annoying. I'm not sure he'd know what to do with a daughter. He'd probably be afraid to hold her till she's walking, afraid he'd break her or something."
She didn't have the heart to tell him the smell of ramen made her nauseas these days. She'd just have to wait till they got home and tell him she didn't have any, and he should just let her cook something.
Naruto chuckled, "I can't imagine Sasuke holding a baby at all...he seems too...macho."
Naruto laughed sounding lighthearted and boyish again.
"I don't know, maybe having a girl will soften him some." the blonde smiled teasingly. He could just imagine how bent out of shape Sasuke was going to be when he had babies to look after. He hoped his teammate didn't freak out too much when Hina-chan actually gives birth.
"So...do they move at all?" he asked looking at her widening belly wide eyes at the thought of what was inside.
Hinata giggled at him. "That or drive him to drink more." She got a mental image of Sasuke with a child of about 3 seated on his lap who was trying to get him to play with her dollies, an odd torn look on his face as he has no idea how to do what she asks, but afraid to make his little girl cry.
Her hand moved to her belly at the mention, rubbing it fondly as if to check. "Nothing that I can feel, though they say he should be swimming around in there quite happily at this point." She still didn't look pregnant yet, perhaps a bit thicker around her midsection then she used to, but by no means round. If it wasn't the talk of the town about how she was carrying the Uchiha heir, most people probably wouldn't even suspect.
"About another month or so... but..." another blush and giggle at the thought, "You will certainly be one of those who gets to feel the kicking. It will be a very short list..."
Naruto blushed, "R-really? That seems really cool...never felt a baby inside a person before."
Naruto scratched his head, "Doesn't it kinda...creep you out? Just a little...like that someone else is inside you ALL THE TIME."
Naruto was so clueless sometimes you'd think he got along better with Sai.
"I wonder if babies can hear there mothes thoughts!" Naruto gasped as the thought came into his head.
((This is so short...-_-;;))
She blinked at him, wondering if he was serious for a second. But Naruto had that distant look in his eyes, the one that meant he was lost in his own head at the moment, and therefore could only be serious about what he'd just said. It was such a bizarre concept, so uniquely Naruto to say such a thing, and it made her so inexplicably happy to hear that she just started laughing.
It wasn't a mean laugh on any level, but a sound of affectionate mirth. It had been so long since she'd heard him randomly spout out something like that, that she couldn't help herself. It got so bad she had to pull him to a stop, clinging to his arm as she rested her forehead to his shoulder to keep from falling over. This of course only confused him more, which made her laugh harder.
When she'd finally managed to calm herself, her sides felt like they were about to split and she was going to pass out from the lack of air. Looking up at the worried confusion in his eyes, she squeezed his arm tightly. Her voice tired and breathless.
"Oh god... how I missed you."
Naruto could only smile and laugh a little as he held unto her shoulders as she laughed constantly asking "What did I say?"
He stiffened at her words, then slowly his features melted into a gentle smile, his azure eyes deepening with a love for a dear friend.
"...I missed you too." He said, and he took advantage of the moment to hug the Hyuga/Uchiha happily.
"I don't really know what just happened..." he admited, "...but I'm glad whatever it was made you laugh! You should to it more, your laugh is sweet!"
The blonde relesed her and grinned while brushing a thumb under his nose.
"Do you guys have any names in mind?" he asked still feeling the inner glow within him of knowing that Hinata had missed him while he was gone.
